You could say on Friday, March 24th UConn’s African Student Association (ASA) in collaboration with Worcestor’s CodeWine Entertainment proved critics wrong by hosting one of the greatest Spring Concerts that night with Nigerian-Ghanaian Afrobeats sensation, Mr.Eazi. The Zagadat entertainer graced the stage, by freestyling “Annointing”, then dazzling the crowd with hits from his recent mixtape, “Accra 2 Lagos”, songs such as “Short Skirt”, “Leg Over”, and “Fight”. To top the momentous event he didn’t leave his fans disappointed, reminding the crowd of the classic tunes that stole their hearts in the beginning of his career, ranging from “Hollup”, “SkinTight”, to the tuneful “Dance For Me”. Your boy Eazi, made a mark in Connecticut and we salute UConn’s ASA and Worcestor’s CodeWine for producing such a world-class event in the Husky Nation, of Connecticut.
Earlier in the concert , GAJ’s Nana K. Bonsu, caught up with UConn’s ASA President Kenny:
Nana: Hello Kenny, what sets this year’s ASA apart from previous ASA?
Kenny: This year’s youth set us apart from previous ASA years. We’ve been able to pull a concert with a high profile artist, such as Mr.Eazi. Also the organization of this year’s team was vital to the success of ASA.
Nana: Do you feel like you’ve left a system in which future ASA’s can build off?
Kenny: Yea definitely. The past E-board made it easy for me. They set the system, and we were able to take it to greater heights. The system is very structured; it gives the president the chance to advance the organization. We just want to continue to get bigger and better.
Nana: How did getting Mr. Eazi come about?
Kenny: We took a survey of what the members wanted. We wanted a different event, other than a fashion show. I wanted to do something for our Nigerian members to see the Nigerian culture live. Mr. Eazi is an international artist that is also known to our non-African members.
Nana: Were there any struggles in planning of the Mr. Eazi event?
Kenny: Yea…It’s definitely been a struggle we had to collaborate with event promoters CodeWine who helped make this event a success. It’s all about communication.
Nana: How do you feel ASA can improve after this event?
Kenny: It puts UConn ASA on the map. Also gets more members from other schools. It opens doors to other schools in Connecticut and makes UConn ASA the biggest in Connecticut.
Nana: What lies in the future for the African Student Association?
Kenny: I see greater things to come. This E-board left a mark. We want bigger events; we are not ASA without the people. We want to reach out to the social issues in Africa, it’s not about having fun all the time, it’s about reflecting back to our homeland.
Nana: Thank You Kenny for such a wonderful interview, is there anyone you would like to thank?
